Tackle It Tuesday Meme

This week's project was the spice cabinet. All those bottles jammed in there every which way. It was a pain trying to find anything.

Hard to believe that much stuff would even fit in that small cabinet.

The challenge was to figure out a way to put it all back so that I could easily locate whatever I needed. First, I threw out all the expired spices, saving some bottles for... well, whatever I might want them for one day. 8-} Amazingly, I actually made it work.

I cleaned up the old spice rack that was collecting dust in a dark corner to put some of the more frequently used spices on the counter. Then I cut a little styrofoam 'step' for the small bottles at the back of the bottom shelf. I swiped another shelf from the opposite cabinet, which makes use of previously wasted space. With all the spices arranged around the edges, and measuring cups and little bowls in the center, all the labels are visible. Vinegars and odd bits on top. VIOLA! ;]

One cabinet down, about 14 to go. (^;^)

Tackle It Tuesday Meme

This little corner has been catching a lot of overflow the past few weeks. It's like one of those things you see so often, you just don't see it anymore. Not that I forgot it was there. I could ignore it for a little while, busy with other projects, but enough is enough.

Everybody makes poor ol Grammaw hold onto whatever they don't want to deal with right now. In the end, it wasn't all that hard to clear up.

That ugly mottled bookcase is soon to be freecycled and I'm looking for pictures to fill the new folding screen (another CL score) off to the left. That booger's HEAVY, so I need to do it all at once. And doesn't Grammaw look happy to see the light of day? Gotta love those snow boots in Flarda. LOL!

By now, y'all must be thinking my whole house is a mess. Well.... OK, yeah, it kinda is. Stuff happens, ya know, and we go through things, and... With all this clearing out and unpacking going on, some of what you're seeing is stuff moved from last week's project. [Yeah, I cheated a little.. sorry. )^;^( ] But there's less and less each time. That's progress. 8-}

Be blessed, y'all!
Have a JESUS-filled day! ^i^

Tackle It Tuesday Meme

About 2 years (or so) ago, I started packing to move to another town. The housing market blew up about that time, the house sat on the market for month after month after month... Eventually Duller got another job back in this area. We thought we'd go ahead and sell, since we both wanted to move at some point. Our realtor was pressing us to renew his contract, assuring us that the market had picked up. Yes, he did start making sales again, but it didn't last. In our usual procrastinatory fashion, we never did renew that contract. And I've only recently started unpacking all those boxes. This bunch was in our bedroom. Not much of a haven to retreat to at the end of the day, is it?

Thanks to Tackle it Tuesday, sponsored by the lovely ladies over at 5 Minutes for Mom, I've been motivated to shove procrastination aside and tackle these unpleasantries with gusto. First, I catalogued these book on LibraryThing. All our bookshelves are overflowing already, so they've been stashed away for a future tackle.

The other boxes were almost like Christmas presents. There were so many things I'd forgotten I owned. And more than a few that made me wonder why on earth I ever bought, much less kept, such a thing. Yeah, I have a real problem letting go. But I'm working on a new attitude about that. After all, I haven't even seen those things in 2 years. And I certainly haven't missed them. So I reckon it's time to let someone else enjoy dusting them.

Duller is thrilled with the new look. OK, it'll never make the pages of Elegant Living, but it's a place for him to sit in the mornings and tie his shoes. And it's a whole lot nicer to look at than a stack of boxes. 8-}

I know, I know... I just looked at the picture again and... yeah, the see-thru storage has to go. Ah, well, another 5 minutes...

This week, I finally could stand Duller's desk no longer. He has a chronic condition called 'the gonna's'. He's gonna do this and he's gonna do that, but never seems to get around to the actually doing. So I had to take matters into my own hands. Oh, it doesn't always look like this. It's usually worse. lol!

I got binders for all those important papers months ago. I even got him started by hole-punching and binding scads of receipts and documents and warranties. And he resolved he's definitely gonna keep on top of it from now on. *sbert*

So I trashed a lot of extraneous stuff, enlisted DS's muscular assistance to move the desk back a bit, flanked it with the bookcases that used to be on the other wall (where my new hutch is) and VIOLA! 8-]

The mirror behind the desk goes on an old vanity/dresser I'll be listing on CL.

Ya know, I reckon I could get used to living in neatness.
Y'all have a JESUS-filled day! ^i^

Tackle It Tuesday Meme

Today, after major shuffling around all weekend, I chose a smaller task to tackle. This old hand-made cradle has been sitting in the corner acting as a catch-all for too long.

I took down the old KONICHIWA banner and dispersed the stuffed animals to better homes. The old cushion went to the trash and the sad little wreath was Freecycled. The baby is probably a lot happier here, having been buried in the spare room for the past few years.

I really should sell the cradle, but I hate the thought of letting it go. No, DS never rocked in it. I just really love the piece and am sure I'll incorporate it into the decor someday. 8-}

Lest y'all think I was lazy this week, just scroll down to the previous post and check out my new hutched DR look. 8-]

Have a JESUS-filled day! ^i^

Tackle It Tuesday Meme

Nothing like jumping in with both feet. I'll be out most of the day, but when I get back, this will be my project.

Duller has been 'helping' me (read: going through his piles of papers and odd bits) clear out the living/dining area. The living room part is coming along nicely, while things are piling up around the table. So I'm posting the before picture to keep me motivated after a full day of running errands, grocery shopping, etc. I'll post the after this evening. *GULP*

Have a JESUS-filled day! ^i^

UPDATE: Well, it needs a little more work to be completely complete, but I'm pretty tickled with how much I actually got done in less than an hour... after being gone till suppertime. WHEW! Now I just need to get Duller to wake up and take the boxes to the shed and our DR will look like a human home again. 8-]

About Me

My photo
I love JESUS! I'm a 7th-generation Florida native, dyed-in-the-wool Southron belle. I just recently dusted off my genealogy notes and, thanks to a long-lost relative, nearly doubled the details. We started home schooling when only 'outlaws' did it and still enjoy a daily quest for knowledge. These days, the family spends a lot of time birding, butterflying, spending as much time in 'the woods' as possible while they're still here.
