My week, in a nutshell

>> 03 April 2010

In a nutshell is the appropriate description alright, lol! It all started innocently enough, checking email, deleting all the spam and scanning a few that looked interesting. And there it was, the big egg hunt at Coffeecup Software. So I figured I'd check it out and get on with my day. Well, that was Monday, early afternoon, and I'm just now coming up for air! I'm kinda mad at myownself, coz I found several eggs in the very beginning, but left them there, thinking I'd look for the golden egg. Who knew those people were so tricky?! By the time I had had enough and went back, all those eggs were claimed. I vowed that I'd claim the very next one with a prize I wanted. Six days later, I've found about 3 dozen already claimed eggs - just missed a couple by seconds - and probably at least 5-6 unclaimed that I didn't want. Can you say OCD?!

During the moments I tore myself away, I made the mistake of reading open comments under a news article. It's truly sad how malevolent people are these days. (Don't even get me started!)

I also learned that the school in which I spent 7 wonderful developing years was closed at the end of last term. It was a bombshell to the parents and staff and many people were up in arms about it. This was an A school, one of the best in the state, according to what I've read. The very same night, I read that the church I grew up in was torn down a few years back to make room for a parking lot, part of the county's plan to renovate 'downtown'. They did save the original chapel, which was named after one of my favourite cousins. The church was within a stone's throw of my grandparent's house - the town's oldest house still standing a day earlier - which had just been demolished when we visited a few years ago. Finally, I hope, it seems the Easter sunrise service that was for many, many years held on Main Street has been moved to the next town. *sigh* It was almost like my entire childhood just went up in a puff of late-night smoke. Reckon Tom Wolfe was right... you can't go home again.

Last, but not least, Firefox updated itself the other day. Ever since, one of my most frequented sites doesn't like it. The browser completely freezes up every time I go there. I'm not talking your normal, annoying, have to wait a few seconds for it to respond, I'm talking full-blown browser-death. Just sits there, 'not responding'. Oddly, the cursor still moves, but can't make anything happen. Even Ctrl-Alt-Del won't work most of the time. I even tried a system restore. I went back to a pre-update time. Unfortunately, the update stayed and FF doesn't give one the option to download a previous version. So, I've moved all my bookmarks back over to IE and am now getting used to what was, up until a few days ago, a slightly inferior experience.

And now the good news! Today, we are celebrating the death and LIFE of our risen Saviour! How awesome to know that He willingly suffered and died to pay the penalty for our crimes against God! Who among us can even begin to fathom a love like that? Thank you, JESUS!

My prayer today is that we all will stop forgetting who we are. We are royalty, made in His image, adopted into His family! If He deemed us a worthy purchase, we should honour His sacrifice by standing tall and facing each day with the assurance that whatever comes our way, He is in control and will NEVER leave us or forsake us.

Have a JESUS-filled Resurrection Day!

From Joel & Victoria Osteen:

Learning to Trust

I heard a story about a little girl who was carefully saving her allowance money so she could buy something special at the toy store. She didn't have much, only a few dollars, but one day her daddy took her to the store. She was overwhelmed by endless aisles filled with games, dolls, and trinkets. Finally, a particular item caught her eye, and she knew it was exactly what she wanted—a lovely strand of white, plastic pearls. She made her purchase and immediately went home to show off her treasure. She was so proud of that necklace. She wore it every day for several weeks. Her father saw this as an opportunity to teach her about trust, so one day he asked her, "Honey, will you give me your pearls?" "No, Daddy, I love my pearls!" she replied. "I can't give you my pearls!" Her father didn't mention the pearl necklace for several days, and then he asked again, "Sweetie, do you trust me?"

"Yes, Daddy." "Will you give me your pearls?" And again she answered," No, Daddy, I can't give you my pearls!" Several more days passed, and the father went a third time to his daughter. "Do you trust me? Will you give me your pearls?"

Finally, with tears welling in her eyes, she reluctantly took off her beloved plastic pearls and handed them to her father. "Here, Daddy. You can have my pearls." Immediately, the father pulled from his pocket a small blue box and handed it to his daughter. Her eyes grew wide with excitement as she opened it to find the most gorgeous strand of genuine pearls. As he fastened the pearls around her neck, the father said, "I had these special pearls for you all along; all you had to do was trust me."

Is there something you are holding on to today that is keeping you from God's best? If you'll trust Him and let go of what's in your hand, an exchange will take place. God will let go of what's in His hand for you—peace, strength, wisdom, favor, and more. He'll give you exactly what you need.

Remember, God is taking you on a journey of faith. Be open to seeing things from a new perspective. Don't settle for second best when God has so much more. All you have to do is learn to trust in Him!

Trust in the Lord with all of your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all of your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight (Proverbs 3:5-6, NIV)

About Me

My photo
I love JESUS! I'm a 7th-generation Florida native, dyed-in-the-wool Southron belle. I just recently dusted off my genealogy notes and, thanks to a long-lost relative, nearly doubled the details. We started home schooling when only 'outlaws' did it and still enjoy a daily quest for knowledge. These days, the family spends a lot of time birding, butterflying, spending as much time in 'the woods' as possible while they're still here.
