Can you be trusted?

>> 12 September 2010

When you meet and like someone, do you ever think about her past? Do you ever wonder if she thinks about yours? I've met some wonderful, outgoing, loving ladies and was shocked to learn that some had a heart-breakingly horrible childhood, or an abusive adult relationship, or a battle with drugs, or any number of surprising experiences.

For several reasons, I share my past with very few. (No, I never did drugs; never even touched marijuana, though I grew up in the 60's and had many friends who laughed at me for being so 'uncool'.) So, why the big 'secret'? Of the VERY few people I have trusted enough to talk with about my childhood, some have been warmly sympathetic. A couple others have stopped having anything to do with me, overtly avoiding me after I offered the smallest of details.. As if I had any control over the events.

If someone trusts you enough to open up her heart to you, do you deserve that trust? Will she regret it? The strongest heart is damaged when trust is abused. An already fragile soul is deeply wounded. Many people don't realize what an honour it is to be offered the trust of a guarded heart.

If you found out a friend had 'a past', how would you react? Would you look at her differently? Would it diminish your affection for her? Would you still be her friend?

Are you trustworthy?

Chatting online and the golden egg

>> 01 April 2010

Doncha just love the internet?! I bumped into one of my very favourite blog buds on Facebook the other day and we had such a nice chat. The thing is, I only joined FB to look for one particular person. After I found her, I had no more use for FB and pretty much forgot it was there. Then I got an email that said another old friend wanted to hook up. Then another, and another... Still, I rarely even thought about checking in there. Then I learned about a freebie I could snag for becoming a fan of ***... then extra swagbucks. Next thing I knew, I was checking in daily. I even started participating just a tad. Who'da thunk it?

OK, so today, I'm in the middle of a giant egg hunt. This has been going on for 3 days now and I'm beginning to feel a bit OC over the whole thing. Me and about 1000 other hunters. LOL! There's one GOLDEN egg worth $1000! The others are good for free Coffecup software or graphics. If you haven't tried their products, check them out. I have yet to read a bad review, and their prices are quite reasonable. AND, if you purchase something, you get free upgrades for life! Anyhow, if you've always wanted your own website, but don't know squat about HTML, their products are SO easy to use. They also have a shopping cart creator, graphics, jukebox, live chat, form builder, etc, etc, etc.

No, I am not an affiliate and I get nothing for referrals. So what IS in it for me? For every 100 new Facebook fans and every 100 new Twitter followers, they're posting a new hint. And when they hit 1500 fans/followers, they're adding more eggs. Very tricky hiders they are, but I have managed to find quite a few. The ones that weren't already claimed, though, were graphics and I want the shopping cart bundle. 8-]

Two awards and a tag...

>> 18 November 2008

Thanks Chris and Kim!

The awards:

Kim, bless her Homesteader's Heart, has blessed me with this award. Kim is one of those few online buds with whom I felt an instant rapport. And as I'm getting to know her a little better, I can see why. We have so much in common, not the least of which is a slightly warped sense of humour. 8-]

'This blog invests and believes in proximity!'
Proximity - The state, quality, sense, or fact of being near or next; closeness.

That's one of the best things about blogging. We make friends and develop a closeness that transcends the miles between us. Now, without further ado, I'm passing this one along to some old friends and some new:
Brenda
Kim
Kathy
Cathy
Graceanne

The tag
:

Kim probably forgot after all this time that she tagged me with a doozy.
I'm supposed to list 15 things I'm not afraid to admit. Hmmm... Let me see...

15 things I'm Not Afraid to Admit

  1. 1. I'm way too good at stretching a sick day into a week. 8-}
  2. 2. I do crosswords, logic problems, sudoku, etc, in ink. Kim, I totally relate to your #10.
  3. 3. I think I might have too many books. I've listed, so far, over 700 on LibraryThing and have several boxes - that I know of - to go.
  4. 4. I don't believe in modern medicine. Exercise, dietary changes and/or supplements have always taken care of what ails me.
  5. 5. I don't wear shoes. If I have to go out, I begrudgingly wear flip flops... mocs in winter.
  6. 6. I'm a terrific planner... but a terrible implementer. I have all sorts of ideas rolling around in my head, but I just can't figure out where to start making them happen.
  7. 7. DS's IQ is 10 points higher than mine. This made homeschooling a breeze. 8-]
  8. 8. I don't feel like I completely 'fit in' anywhere. I'm too citified for the country folk and too countrified for the city folk.
  9. 9. I tend to lose interest in things once I 'master' them. Example... I got a computer chess game and learned to play. After I started beating the computer, I didn't play anymore.
  10. 10. I hate reading directions. The older I get the more visual I become. Show me what to do and I'm good to go.
  11. 11. I love to cook and I'd cook more - like all the time - if I could get somebody else to clean up. 8-}
  12. 12. I'm super cheap. But also generous to a fault. I can easily spend money on others, but have a really hard time buying anything for myself. (Working on that 8-} )
  13. 13. I'm way too eclectic. I'm making myself get rid of tons of 'stuff' so our house will stop looking like a thrift store.
  14. 14. I'll sometimes watch a tv program just to see how the homes are decorated.
  15. 15. No matter how I try, I just can't do mornings. I get ambitious after everybody else is asleep and would vacuum then, but the dog hates the vc and would go nuts. Duller has been known to wake up to rearranged furniture. 8-}

Whew! Now I'm supposed to tag 5 people to own up to 15 things...
I know for a fact some of the people I would tag will not do this. Some have a sidebar graphic that reads, 'Please don't tag me; it makes me grouchy'. And some have already been tagged with this one. So, if you're reading this and don't fit any of those categories, please consider yourself tagged. 8-}

PS - It just dawned on me... I probably should have posted the 'proximity' award on my other blog. What can I say... I should have done this at 2AM, when I was actually conscious. 8-}

About Me

My photo
I love JESUS! I'm a 7th-generation Florida native, dyed-in-the-wool Southron belle. I just recently dusted off my genealogy notes and, thanks to a long-lost relative, nearly doubled the details. We started home schooling when only 'outlaws' did it and still enjoy a daily quest for knowledge. These days, the family spends a lot of time birding, butterflying, spending as much time in 'the woods' as possible while they're still here.
