not-so-funny Friday
>> 14 August 2009
Y'all, I been busier'n a cat coverin' it up today!
So, my Friday funny wasn't all that funny at the time. OK, it still isn't all that funny. Good thing I got up earlier than usual, coz I had a Boo Radley moment last night and left my car window partly open. Oh, yeah... it rained. *sigh* PTL, it didn't rain as much as it had during the day yesterday. A half inch was bad enough. I spent about an hour out there with Duller's hair dryer. (I don't own/use one.) Then I left the door open so the blazing sun could finish the job. But only after I moved it as close to the house as I could get, so I could run out if it started raining again. After I came back in, I got paranoid and wound up spending the better part of another hour out there, just in case.
Which led to the shots not taken. A Red-spotted Purple was fluttering all over the concrete stepping stones on the deck and wasn't much bothered by my proximity. He even landed on my hand for a couple seconds when I first stepped back out. How cool was that?! 8-} The first - and woulda been best - shot of him was fuzzy, coz my lens was a bit fogged up. I spotted a duskywing flitting in and out of the car and tried to grab a shot of him on the seat. But he was too fast for me. then he landed on the steering wheel and I was just about to snap when he took off. I silently prayed he'd light there again and he did! And just as I was about to snap, something bzzed my ear and I involuntarily reacted with a swish of my hand. Missed again! He wasn't going to give me that third strike. But he did land on the windshield washer nozzle doohickey and preened and posed nicely for a few minutes.
Finally, I could stand the heat no more and made a beeline for the AC. Changed into some dry clothes and cooled off a little, then went back out to shut the car door. Typically, as I left the camera inside this time, there were several AbFab photo ops, not the least of which was a hummingbird sipping on the cupheas for a good minute or so. She took off when she heard the young Swallowtail Kite screaming for his mid-morning snack.
Curses! Foiled again!
Have a JESUS-filled day!
